Four to join WHKY for 2014-15 season
July 28, 2014
WATERLOO, Ont. (July 28, 2014) - Wilfrid Laurier women's hockey head coach Rick Osborne is pleased to announce the four incoming student-athletes who will join his team for the 2014-15 season.
Suiting up for the defending OUA Champion Golden Hawks next year will be forwards Karley Campbell of Forest, Ont., and Katia Piccoli of Richmond Hill, Ont., along with defenceman Alexandra Pears of Victoria, B.C. and goaltender Nicholle Kovach of Schomberg, Ont.
"Our four recruits bring to the table some common characteristics that will have an impact on our team success," says Osborne of his recruiting class. "Each of the players has an incredible work ethic, on-ice assertiveness, and a passion for the game and the Golden Hawk brand which will be crucial to us as we look to defend our OUA title next season."
Joining Campbell up front is Piccoli, who comes to Laurier after suiting up for the Etobicoke Dolphins of the PWHL in 2013-14. The 5-10 forward is a presence on the ice and in 38 games last year had five goals, two assists and 46 penalty minutes.
"Katia is a power forward who will bring an element of toughness as well as create a lot of traffic around the opposition net," said Osborne. "She works hard off the ice and is a difficult player to play against. I also believe we will find some hidden offensive upside to her game over the years."
All four players will get their first taste of OUA action on Thursday, October 2 when the Golden Hawks kick off defence of their OUA Championship against the Nipissing Lakers at the Waterloo Recreation Complex.
